When making purchases at Maryland dispensaries, you may hear your dispensary agents mention the cannabinoid and terpene profiles found in particular strains. Terpenes are the essential oils in the cannabis plant that help determine effects experienced upon consumption. Cannabinoids also play an important role, and are responsible for the plant's medicinal and psychoactive properties.

Cannabinoids are compounds found in the cannabis plant that help our cells communicate more effectively by imitating endocannabinoids. Endocannainoids are natural compounds that our bodies produce to maintain immune stability and general health. The most common and familiar cannabinoids are THC and CBD, but these are are just two of the 100+ cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. THC is the main psychoactive component of cannabis that causes the "high" feeling and various effects — euphoria, relaxation, hunger, sedation, motivation, happiness, etc. Unlike THC, CBD is non-psychoactive, but provides immense inflammatory and pain relief.

Pictured above, you’ll see a few of the other common cannabinoids found in Prime products and their medical benefits. Understanding the benefits of each cannabinoid is helpful in choosing specific strains and products that will best treat your symptoms and ailments.
